The 2024 edition of the ICM+ Advanced Neuromonitoring Workshop was held on 1st September at Robinson College, University of Cambridge, as a satellite event preceding the International Neurotrauma Society (INTS) meeting. That year marked a significant milestone: the 20th anniversary of the ICM+ software.

We were delighted to welcome the maximum number of participants—70 attendees from across the world—who took part in a full day of hands-on sessions, live demonstrations, and expert discussions on the subject of monitoring cerebral autoregulation and generally about intracranial pressure and cerebral blood flow dynamics. The atmosphere was dynamic and collaborative throughout, with enthusiastic engagement from both seasoned users and newcomers alike.

Programme Highlights

The workshop followed a well-established structure refined over previous years, but introduced several new components, including integration with the Moberg Analytics Cloud Platform. The day was divided into thematic blocks, focusing on:

  • Data acquisition and integration with bedside monitors and simulation devices
  • Data handling and curation, including anonymisation and cloud uploading
  • Exploratory and advanced data analysis with ICM+ and Python plugins
  • Clinical interpretation and case studies based on real-world scenarios
  • Big data workflows, including batch processing and export pipelines

The practical sessions allowed attendees to explore various workflows using their own laptops, with support provided for remote access to Windows environments where needed. Exercises were tailored to different levels of experience.

Celebrating 20 Years of ICM+

This year’s workshop was extra special as it marked 20 years since the first release of ICM+. We celebrated this milestone in true Cambridge style—with a drinks reception and live music in the beautiful setting of Robinson College gardens, offering attendees the chance to connect and reflect on the journey and the future of multimodal brain monitoring.
